Sarah C. Smith
My education and experience
I earned bachelor’s degrees in English and letters from the University of Oklahoma in 2015. As an undergrad, I worked as a writing tutor for the university’s honors college and as an editorial assistant at the University of Oklahoma Press.
As I worked on a master’s of science in publishing from Pace University in New York (completed 2017), I was promoted at OU Press to manuscript editor and rights and permissions manager.
In 2017 I left those positions and founded Arbuckle Editorial so that I could do more of the work I’m most passionate about: collaborating directly with authors and publishers to ensure each sentence, each page of their books is polished and professional.
I’m a member of ACES: The Society for Editing, and I take several editing courses per year through ACES and the Editorial Freelancers Association to stay educated on conventions in the industry and special topics in academic and nonfiction editing.
What I can do for you
I’ve worked in-house in project management and in rights and permissions in addition to editing and proofreading, so I’m able to look at manuscripts and proofs from multiple perspectives.
At the same time, I have a master’s degree; I’ve written my own thesis. So while I’m familiar with the traditional publication process and the needs of publishers, I’m also a ready advocate for authors. I edit with a vigilant eye not just for grammar and style but for the author’s vision for their work.
